Eagle in Burl Harp This unusual beauty features Black Walnut Burl on the face. The burl was harvested in Missouri several years ago, and I cut a slab approximately 3/16 of an inch thick to produce the front piece of this harp. The body of the harp is built up with layers of Basswood and Cherry, with Black Walnut on the back. |

In this photo, I intentionally tried to over expose the lighting to show the intricate grain patterns of this gorgeous burl wood.

This close up of the soundhole reveals the Eagle soaring within the body of the harp. This Eagle was hand cut from Basswood, and then brought to life with Pyrographic etching. Not ready to stop there, I then textured each feather on the bird to a beautiful effect. Not an easy task considering the wing span of this bird is only 2 and 1/2 inches across. He is mounted on a small pedestal that holds him off of the back of the harp, so he really does appear to be in flight within the harp.
Below I've copied the letter I received from the customer right after she received her harp.
Oh, Harp!!!! It is glorious. You know how to make a grown woman cry. Thank you, thank you. And the Eagle is PERFECT1 What an artist you are. Again, thank you. I get tears every time I look at it. And the sound is perfect.
A very happy customer....
